When I was given the topic of the Hispanic Caribbean for my unit my thoughts went immediately to Calypso and Steel pan music. They are two of the most "caribbean" things in the music world. I was slightly upset and and largely intrigued to find out that they do not play a role in the Hispanic portion of the Caribbean. This brings a new perspective on the area in terms of culture. I was already well aware of the cultural richness and diversity of the the caribbean, but this adds a new level of to it. Each island has it's own traditions and can be seen as an almost new world from the others.
