Title: "Bubble Pop!"
Performer: Hyuna
Culture: Japanese (pop music)
Instrumentation: Female and male voices and heavily synthesized background "beat"
My first inclination was to see what kind of music is popular in Japan and I can honestly say that I'm not too surprised by what I found. I try very hard to stay away from whatever is "trendy" in american pop music (currently it looks like I'm avoiding Harlem Shake...whatever that means), mainly because it is overly synthesized, "dancing" usually only seen in soft core pornography, and most importantly its terrible music. It's a little depressing to see the view counter on this nearing 50 million but this does speak to the globalization of music. Thanks to the internet the world has become a much smaller place, we can always see whats going on in other cultures and they can take a peek into ours, this allows for ideas to be easily transmitted. The idea here is pretty much that sex sells when it comes to anything, music notwithstanding. That idea has transcended all walks of life in recent memory and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere.
